Read on for the top 6 dog breeds for families…
1. Labrador
Labradors are great family pets, and I should know, we had one before our current dog. They do need plenty of exercise but they are so friendly and amazingly tolerant with young children.
2. Poodle crossbreeds
Poodle crossbreeds seems to be all the rage at the moment, but it’s not just because they are super cute and look like teddy bears. Poodle cross breeds such as Cockapoos, Labradoodles, Maltipoos and Cavapoos take on some of the most desirable features of the Poodles, such as the fact that they don’t shed and are hypoallergenic!
3. French Bulldog
The French Bulldog is such a playful and happy little soul. They are small, so are easy to handle for young children. They like exercise but don’t need as much as a Labrador does for example, so they can slot into busy family life quite well.

4. Beagle
The Beagle has to be one of the best dog breeds for families. They are energetic and very playful so they will generally get along with children no problem. They do require some initial training, like most dogs do, but they are great for first time dog owners.
5. Cocker Spaniel
Cocker Spaniels make fantastic family pets. The are gentle and tolerant of children. They can be very excitable though so it’s important to train them from being a puppy. With the right training though, they will be a great pet for families with small children.
6. Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever often comes top of dog breed polls and it’s really not hard to see why. They are beautiful animals and so gentle. They love to snuggle, yet also enjoy walks and play. They are very obedient and live to please their owners. There really isn’t many negatives to this breed, aside from maybe the shedding!
